Application for 2013 Entry at Xiamen University is Open
Xiamen University (XMU) was founded in 1921 by the well-known overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee. It is a key comprehensive university directly affiliated to China’s Ministry of Education, and is a first-class university with extensive international influence, ranking among the top 20 out of the over 2,000 higher-education institutions in China. XMU has campuses on both sides of Xiamen Bay, facing the Taiwan Straits. Nestled snugly between green hills and the blue sea, XMU boasts one of the most beautiful campuses in the world.
In 2012 there was a total enrollment of 4,209 international students from over 120 nations. The application for 2013 entry at Xiamen University will open on Feb. 1 and end on July 1, 2013. (Please make online application at: http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application). With a top-notch faculty and staff, XMU offers a broad range of academic programmes. To further increase the number of international students and to attract more and more excellent candidates, XMU is continually carrying out reforms and innovating the educational model.
More degree programmes in English
XMU has launched a wide range of high-level programmes in English, including 2 undergraduate programmes, 13 master’s programmes and 63 doctoral programmes.
1. Undergraduate programmes in English: Economics and Clinical Medicine (MBBS)
Economics is a well-established discipline at XMU. The programme is run using an internationally recognized educational model and students are instructed by a team of highly-qualified professors who use original English textbooks.
XMU is one of the Chinese universities authorized by China’s Ministry of Education to enroll international students in the MBBS programme taught in English. The programme aims to help international students to become qualified medical professionals through six years of training in the medical school and hospitals.
2. Master’s programmes in English
As an internationalisation initiative, XMU has launched 13 master’s programmes in English that aim to bring forth high-level international specialists with a solid professional foundation plus a good understanding of the Chinese society and culture.
3. Doctoral programmes in English
XMU has a team of highly qualified professors, many of whom have obtained doctorates from overseas universities. They are able to instruct international students in English. Currently XMU offers more than 60 doctoral programmes in English, covering a wide range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, engineering and technical sciences.
More scholarships for International students
A number of scholarships are available to international students, including Chinese Govt. Scholarships (including the one for specific countries, University Postgraduate Programme, Sino-US Cultural Exchange Programme and Chinese Government Marine Scholarships), Confucius Institute Scholarships (including Chinese Language and Culture Programme, Confucius China Study Plan for PhD Programme), Fujian Provincial Government Scholarships and XMU Scholarships. Full scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, food, healthcare and insurance costs, while partial scholarships cover one or several items covered by full scholarships. The Confucius China Study Plan for PhD Programme will provide each approved candidate an annual subsidy of up to RMB 200,000.
