The International College of Chinese Studies is the largest TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) institution in northwest China. It is comprised of three departments, one research institute, one center, namely the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Department of Sinology, the Center for Training Overseas Chinese Teachers and the Institute of International Sinology. It is also one of the designated testing centers of “National Teachers of Chinese as a Second Language Certificate.”
Currently registered are over 500 foreign full-time, long-term language students, undergraduate students, postgraduate students and 300 short-term language students. Also enrolled are approximately 100 Chinese undergraduate students and 20 postgraduate students majoring in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.
The College employs over 70 full-time and part-time teachers. Among the 25 full-time teachers, there are one Doctoral academic advisor, two professors and four associate professors. 95% of the teachers have already received the National Teachers of Chinese as a Second Language Certificate, and 50% of them have either received or are currently working on a doctoral degree.
The College of Chinese Studies has two modern classroom buildings, with two multimedia classrooms, one computer room, six language laboratories, a library and reading room containing 8000 books, etc.
The College has compiled series of textbooks in teaching Chinese language, culture and art, which are widely used by institutions at home and abroad. The compilation of “Papers in International Sinology” by the Institute of International Sinology represents the latest research findings by world famous Sinologists and teachers of our university, especially in the discipline of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.
