Xinjiang Normal University (XJNU) was founded in December, 1978. In its more than thirty years of development, Xinjiang Normal University has always adhered to “politicians and educators running education”, aiming to become a strong driving force for education undertakings in Xinjiang as well as economic and social development. Pursuing science, civilization, advance and truth, following the motto of “learning extensively, practicing devotedly, living up to the glory of a teacher”, and bearing the responsibility of national rejuvenation and social advance, XJNU has contributed a lot to economic and social development as well as education undertakings in Xinjiang.

At present, XJNU has 3 campuses covering an area of 3181 mu (212.07 hectares) in total, of which the 2519 mu (167.93 hectares) Hot-Spring Campus is planned to be completed within five to eight years in three phases. After completion, human and architecture will be in harmony with nature. With poetic and pictorial surroundings, building complexes Hot-Spring Campus will become the top in Xinjiang and the most significant landmark in Central Asia.

Comprehensive Education System

XJNU has 28,243 students of all types and at all levels, including 15,852 undergraduate students, 1,867 graduate students, 10,524 adult students, and 944 international students. There are 22 schools with 56 bachelor's degree programs. XJNU is offering Master’s Degree programs of 16 first-class disciplines and 96 second-class disciplines, 5 professional Master’s degree programs, as well as postgraduate on the job for university teachers. Undergraduate and graduate major covers 10 disciplines such as Philosophy, Economics, Law, Pedagogy, Literature, History, Natural Science, Engineering, Management and Art. In 2013, project construction for newly-added doctor degree programs was accepted by Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and year 2014 will witness enrollment. At present, a complete education system comprising graduate education, undergraduate education, middle and primary school education, adult education, pre-school education and special education have taken place.

There are 2,122 faculty members on campus, among whom there are over 1,001 full-time teaching faculties, including 123 Professors, 357 associate professors and 450 postgraduate’s supervisors.

Strong Research Platforms

There are 37 research institutes, 10 laboratories for featured and advantageous disciplines co-built by both the central and local governments, 7 key region-level disciplines, one key region-level laboratory, five key industry urgently needed talent majors and 9 key region-level study bases of humanistic and social science set up on campus. Moreover, there are Xinjiang Social Management Research Institute, Central Asia Research Institute, Xinjiang University Teachers’ Training Center, Xinjiang Bilingual Teaching Research Center, Macao-Xinjiang English Research Center, Central Asia Base for International Popularization of Chinese Language, National University Students’ Cultural Quality Education Base and Xinjiang University Students’ Ideological and Political Education Research Center in XJNU.

Flourishing Internationalization Work

XJNU widely promotes the exchange and cooperation at home and abroad on issues related to education, science, technology, and culture. Interschool cooperation with America, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan have been successively established. Moreover, the university sends teachers out for further study, domestic and international academic conference, and at the same time invites domestically and internationally well-known specialists and scholars to give lectures and conduct exchanges. XJNU has successively set up Confucius Institutes in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, with various types of Chinese teaching schools scattered in 44 colleges of 11 countries. XJNU has been awarded as Excellent Host University for Confucius Institute byChina National Office for Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language and become Chinese Academy for SCO University.
