Xuzhou

Xuzhou, in the northwest of Jiangsu Province, is located at the intersection point of Henan Province, Shandong Province and Anhui Province. It covers an area of 1,125 km2 and has a population of 8.7 million.

The city has convenient access to transportation. The Beijing-Shanghai Railway intersects with the Longhai Railway (which runs from Lanzhou in Gansu Province to Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province) in Xuzhou. National highways and local expressways link the city with other cities in China. The Grand Canal goes through the city and makes the Xuzhou Port an important energy transfer port. Xuzhou Guanyin Airport offers daily flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other major cities around China.

Xuzhou has plentiful mineral resources, such as coal, iron, titanium and well salt. It also has one of the ten largest coal reserves in China.

Tourists visiting Xuzhou will want to see the "Handai San Jue", the three most important and symbolic treasures that represent Han culture. These are the Han tombs, the terracotta warriors and the Han stone sculptures. Examples of these can be seen in the Xuzhou Museum of Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses of the Han Dynasty, the Guishan Han Tomb, and the Gallery of Han Stone Sculpture, respectively. The Xuzhou Museum of Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses of the Han Dynasty, situated on the west side of Lion Hill, displays thousands of terracotta warriors and horses. Xuzhou Han City, located in Jiuli District, is a Han-style modern building. It is also a teleplay and film base for China Central Television (CCTV). Xuzhou also has many special villages, such as Peixian County, Mazhuang Village and Qijia Village. Mazhuang Village is the "Chinese Folk Custom and Culture Village". The most recommendable cuisines in Xuzhou include Fish Stewed in Mutton (Yang Fang Cang Yu), Steaming Turtle and Chicken (Ba Wang Bie Ji) and Dongpo Meat.
