University Profile
Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU) is located in the university city in Shenbei New District, a major development district of China. Since its founding in 1952, it has been one of the major aeronautical universities in China. As early as 1958, the students and teachers manufactured their own plane.
The university has developed into an academic centrer, housing teaching buildings, research laboratories, a library which is both an architectural and cultural icon, a theatre building, sports arena, swimming centre and student’s activity centers having 600,000 square meters of floor space on 1 and pver 200, 000 square meters of landscaped gardens. Other services such as the school hospital, comfortable accommodations and a number of dining halls are also provided.
The university has 1,600 staff, 900 of which are academic, and boasts an attendance of more than 20,000 students. While focusing on engineering disciplines, SAU’s scope has been enhanced with curricula covering such areas as science, management and liberal arts. The university has 44 disciplines for undergraduate study, 50 disciplines for master degrees, and joint programs for PhDs. SAU degrees are recognized around the world.
SAU prides itself on its practical teaching system which includes basic, professional and general practice. There are numerous first-rate labs for the students, some at national level.
SAU is also proud of its Aircraft Maintenance Center, which is the only one in China approved by the China Civil Aviation Authority to issue licenses to maintain helicopters. Authorization of fixed-wing aircraft maintenance licenses is anticipated soon. There are 20 aircrafts provided for the students to practice with on the campus.
SAU has established cooperation with many companies and institutes including the Shenyang Liming Aero-engine Group Corporation, the Avic Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, and has developed a network of 50 partnerships to provide practical training opportunities both inside and outside the campus.
During its 60 years, about 50,000 students have graduated from the university, with numerous students achieving high honors. SAU graduates historically have had a very high employment rate with around 90% being employed soon after graduation.
Internationalization is one of the characteristics of SAU. The university has established cooperative agreements with more than 80 universities and companies from around the world. It has an active exchange program for both teachers and students.
The university employs a number of foreign teachers who contribute to both the academic and cultural life of the school community. At present, there are over 380 international students studying Aircraft Manufacture, Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering, International Business and Chinese Culture. These students, with their diverse cultural backgrounds, contribute to the broad international focus of the university.
Scholarship
In order to drive enthusiasm and study initiative, encourage and support excellence in conduct and academy, create a good study atmosphere and drive diligent study, Shenyang Aerospace University hereby formulates this Outstanding/distinguished International Student's Scholarship Procedures.
1. Conditions for Application
I. Applicants shall be normal self-sponsored international students; registered for an undergraduate or postgraduate program for one (1) year or above and haven’t applied for temporary leave or extension of study;
II. Applicants shall observe and abide by every law of China, school rules and regulations, and not have any record of violation;
III. Applicants shall respect the authority, love the school, respect other foreign students, be friendly and positively participate in school organized activities;
IV. Applicants shall possess honest code of honor, be excellent in quality and have comprehensively good behavior synthesis evaluation;
V. Applicants shall be upright in study, diligent and have an outstanding academic record for the previous semester.
(a)First Prize Scholarship applicants shall have a minimum average of 85% with scores from each course not less than 80 marks;
(b) Second Prize Scholarship applicants shall have a minimum average of 80% with scores from each course not less than 75 marks;
(c) Third Prize Scholarship applicants shall have a minimum of 70 marks in every course.
(d) Single Item Scholarship applicants shall have a minimum of 65 marks in all courses.
2. Award Establishment
The University sets apart 5% of the total international students’ fee every year for the Outstanding International Students’ Scholarship.
(a) First Prize, RMB300 per month, awarded to 5% of the total number of students;
(b) Second Prize, RMB200 per month, awarded to 10% of the total number of students;
(c) Third Prize, RMB150 per month, awarded to 40% of the total number of students.
Single Item Scholarship :
(i) Outstanding Class Cadre Prize, RMB100 per month
(ii) Progressive Study Prize, RMB100 per month
(iii) Technological Activity Prize, RMB100 per month
(iv) Outstanding Literature Prize, RMB100 per month
(v) Outstanding Social Activity Prize, RMB50 per month
(vi) Full Attendance Award, RMB50 per month
The comprehensive scholarship prize and the single item scholarship may be awarded concurrently.
3. Evaluation procedures
The university establishes an International Students’ Scholarship Appraisal Committee. The committee is to be composed of the related school leaderships and the secondary units in charge; the international student office is responsible for the concrete details.
At the beginning of each semester, international students who meet the conditions for the scholarship should submit written application to the international students’ office
Based on the international student’s application, academic record and daily behavior performance (academic record 75%, daily behavior performance 25%), initial comments shall be made by the international students’ office organization, initial comments shall include class and grade evaluation, teacher evaluation and other procedures.
The international students’ office will compose the names of the applicants meeting the necessary condition, then report to the international students’ scholarship appraisal committee for consideration in the scheduled time then finally determine the scholarship students’ name list.
The Scholarship evaluation result shall be published on the international students’ office website.
4. Scholarship distribution procedure
The scholarship adopts a monthly distribution method; the international students’ office shall go through the distribution procedure before the 15th of every month.
The international students’ office of SAU has the right to interpret the stipulated rights herein.
Applicant Qualifications
All applicants must be in good health.
(1) Bachelor's Degree: Under the age of 35, a high school graduate or with equivalent qualification of 12-year education background. Passing the 4th level HSK is required if study in Chinese language. Mathematics, physics and chemistry with 60% of total marks results are necessary for engineering degree courses.
(2) Master's Degree: Under the age of 45, a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification. Passing the 6th level HSK is required if study in Chinese language. Mathematics, physics and chemistry with 60% of total marks results are necessary for engineering degree courses.
(3) Junior Advanced Study: Under the age of 35, a B.S. degree or equivalent qualification, able to take courses in English or in Chinese.
(4) Senior Advanced Study: Under the age of 45, a B.S. degree, M.S. degree or equivalent qualification, able to take courses in English or in Chinese.
(5) Chinese Language Course: No prerequisite required.
