ECUPL Scholarship Regulations for Foreign Students
Part One. Principle
1. In order to assure openness, fairness and justification of government scholarships for foreign students and to regulate the selection as well as assessment of these scholarships, we hereby make these regulations to maximize the function of scholarship system.
2. The East China University of Political Science and Law (hereinafter referred to as ECUPL) Scholarship Regulations for Foreign Students is mainly used to finance excellent foreign students and scholars to pursue degree education in our university.
Part Two. Category and Sum of Scholarship
3. Category
Scholarships are categorized into three different levels: Scholarship A (Full Scholarship), scholarship B (Partial Scholarship) and scholarship C (top students scholarship).
4. Scholarship A
Scholarship A is to finance excellent foreign students pursuing postgraduate degree education in our university. The beneficiaries are waived application fees and tuition fees. A basic lodging fee is provided. Insurance for serious diseases and accidents is provided free. A monthly living allowance is offered. The amount of living allowance is RMB1100 per month for postgraduates and RMB1400 per month for PhD candidates.
5. Scholarship B
Scholarship B is to finance excellent foreign students pursuing degree education. The beneficiaries are waived application fees, tuition fees and the cost of basic teaching materials.
6. Scholarship C
Scholarship C is to finance excellent current foreign students who are receiving degree education in our university. The beneficiaries are granted RMB5000.
7. Foreign students who have already been granted Scholarship A or Scholarship B are not eligible to apply for Scholarship C.
Part Three. Application Procedures
8. Application for Scholarship A
1). Deadline and Application Procedure
Applicants should submit application to International Exchange Center, ECUPL before June 30th every year. Applicants should submit admission application and scholarship application at the same time.
2). Qualifications of Applicants
a. Applicants should be of foreign nationality and in good health.
b. Education and Age Requirements:
Applicants for PhD program must have a master’s degree and be under 40 years old. Applicants for postgraduate program must have a bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years old. The requirements may be negotiable for outstanding applicants.
c. Applicants should have excellent academic performance.
d. Applicants should not have received any other form of scholarship from the Chinese government.
3). Scholarship Contents and Sum
a. Tuition
Tuition is paid by university finance department.
b. Living allowance
Living allowance is RMB1100 per month for postgraduates and RMB1400 per month for PhD candidates.
c. Lodging fee
Lodging fee is RMB1500 per month.
d. Insurance for serious diseases and accidents is provided.
4). Application Materials
Applicants should submit the following materials:
a. Two copies of Application Form for Scholarship A in Chinese;
b. Notarized highest education degree. If the applicant is still in school, the applicants should submit proof of enrollment. If the degree is not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English version of the degree should be submitted;
c. Grade transcripts should be submitted. If they are not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English version of the transcript should be submitted;
d. Study Plan in China with at least 1000 words in Chinese;
e. Recommendation letters of two professors or associate professors from the university where the student graduated in Chinese or English;
Application materials are not returned whether admitted or not.
5) Admission and Notice
Upon receiving the application, ECUPL scholarship committee will notify in writing the applicants of the assessment results within two months.
9. Application for Scholarship B
1). Deadline and Application Procedure
Applicants should submit application to International Exchange Center, ECUPL before June 30th every year. Applicants should submit admission application and scholarship application at the same time.
2). Qualifications of Applicants
a. Applicants should be of foreign nationality and in good health.
b. Education and Age Requirements:
Applicants for undergraduate program must have graduated from senior high school and be under 25. Applicants for postgraduate program must have a bachelor’s degree and be under 35. Applicants for PhD program must have a master’s degree and be under 40. The requirements may be negotiable for outstanding applicants.
c. Applicants should have excellent academic performance.
d. Applicants should not have received any other form of scholarship from the Chinese government.
3). Scholarship Contents and Sum
Recipients of Scholarship B are granted tuition financial support for current year. Tuition is paid by ECUPL finance department. Additionally, registration fee is waived.
4). Application Materials
Applicants should submit the following materials:
a. Two copies of Application Form for Scholarship B in Chinese;
b. Notarized highest education degree. If the applicant is still in school, the applicants should submit proof of enrollment. If the degree is not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English version of the degree should be submitted;
c. Grade transcripts should be submitted. If they are not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English version of the transcript should be submitted;
d. Applicants for master’s or doctoral program should submit their Study Plan in China with at least 1000 words in Chinese;
Application materials are not returned whether admitted or not.
5) Admission and Notice
Upon receiving the application, ECUPL scholarship committee will notify in writing the applicants of the assessment results within two months.
10. Application for Scholarship C
1). Deadline and Application Procedure
Applicants should submit application to International Exchange Center, ECUPL before September 30th every year. Applicants should submit admission application and scholarship application at the same time.
2). Qualifications of Applicants
a. Applicants should be students for degree education studying in our university who have not received any other form of scholarship.
b. Applicants should be goal-oriented, hard-studying with excellent academic performance.
c. Applicants should take an active part in all kinds of charity organizations and social practice activities organized by ECUPL.
d. Applicants should abide by the Chinese laws and regulations, ECUPL rules and regulations and respect the teaching arrangement of ECUPL.
e. Foreign students who are eligible may apply more than once.
3). Scholarship Contents and Sum
Beneficiaries of Scholarship C are granted RMB5000.
4). Application Materials
Applicants should submit the following materials:
e. Two copies of Application Form for Scholarship C in Chinese;
f. Grade transcripts;
g. Applicants for master’s or doctoral program should submit their Study Plan in China with at least 1000 words in Chinese;
Application materials are not returned whether admitted or not.
5) Admission and Notice
Upon receiving the application, ECUPL scholarship committee will notify in writing the applicants themselves of the assessment results within two months.
11. Living allowance and lodgings fee in Scholarship A and Scholarship B as well as Scholarship C are directly transferred to student accounts by ECUPL finance department. The living allowance and lodging fee is transferred on a monthly basis.
Part Four. Selection and Assessment of Foreign Students Government Scholarship
12. ECUPL establishes an assessment committee for the scholarship. Members of this committee are comprised of ECUPL top leaders in charge and faculty members from the international exchange center, students department, postgraduate department, academic administration department and finance department. One director and two deputy directors will be nominated for this committee.
13. The international exchange center assesses the qualifications and applications of every applicant, and submits to the ECUPL assessment committee the application materials of qualified applicants for review.
14. ECUPL assessment committee makes the final decision of scholarship recipient name list according to the application materials submitted by the international exchange center.
15. ECUPL should continue with its administration and education towards the scholarship recipients. If any of the following happens to scholarship recipients, ECUPL assessment committee has the right to cancel or terminate the scholarship:
1). Violating state laws and regulations;
2). Violating ECUPL rules and regulations;
3). Being unable to continue study because of student’s own study capability or health problem.
16. ECUPL assessment committee is responsible for yearly assessment of Scholarship A and Scholarship B recipients. The assessment criteria are academic performance and study attitudes.
17. In yearly assessment, if any of the following occur to scholarship A and Scholarship B recipients, ECUPL assessment committee has the right to cancel the scholarship:
1). Failing more than two courses in the past academic year;
2). Being lower than 90% in class attendance;
3). Being disciplined for minor and major violations of ECUPL rules and regulations.
Part Five. Others
18. All tuitions, living allowance and lodging fees are calculated in RMB.
19. ECUPL assessment committee reserves its right to interpret this regulation.
20. This regulation is implemented on publication after being approved by ECUPL president.
