University Profile
Chongqing Normal University (hereafter as “CNU”), founded in 1954, is a full-time comprehensive institution of higher education under the leadership of Chongqing Municipal Government of P. R. China. CNU covers over 220 hectares and has 3 campus,one is located in Shapingba District, one is located in the Univerity Town,and the other is in Beibei District. CNU is a higher education institution authorized to award Master’s and Bachelor’s degree with the approval of the Degree Awarding commission of the State Council, P. R. China. Currently, there are 17colleges, 45 master's degree programs, 47 under-graduate programs concerning literature, science, economics, management, art, physical education, etc., forming an educational system which is able to train postgraduates, undergraduates, associates and overseas students. Currently, there are over 30,000 students enrolled and over 1800 teachers including more than 500 professors and associate professors.
CNU is entitled by the Ministry of Education，P.R. China to enroll overseas students. It was designated as one of the first Chinese Language Educational Centers by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and is currently the only one in western China. The university, featured in teachers’ education, has developed into a higher education institution of multi-subjects involving science and liberal arts. A fairly complete teachers’ education system has been formed including pre-school education, primary school education, middle school education, higher education, continuing education, vocational and technical education, special education, and teachers training for overseas Chinese language education.
Grasping the tendency of educational globalization, CNU perseveres in the mode of “open university”. The university has successively established cooperation and exchange relationship with education institutions in over 20 countries such as USA, Russia, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Malaysia and Indonesia. It has set up institutions such as Teachers College of Chinese Language and Confucius Institute in Indonesia and Rwanda, etc.
CNU attaches much importance to overseas students’ education and administration in a way of classified teaching and human-based management. International Students Office enjoys much popularity with overseas students as their home in China. Degree program students study together with Chinese students for a better integration of education. CNU took the lead in Chongqing to set up International College of Chinese Language and Culture, providing better education and administration for Chinese language training students. The college offers favorable learning environment for the students to remove language obstacles as soon as possible with small-sized classes and special tutoring.

Scholarship
Scholarship
Chongqing Normal University is a key reception institute of Chongqing Municipal Mayor Scholarship and Confucius Institute Scholarship for overseas students. Welcome to apply for these two scholarships. CNU has also set up President Scholarship for those excellent overseas students studying at the University.
Pre-enrollment Scholarship Application
1. The application period for Chongqing Municipal Mayor Scholarship is from March 1 to April 10.
2. The application period for Confucius Institute Scholarship is from March 1 to April 25.
Post-enrollment Scholarship Application
Those who have studied in CNU for a year or over, obey the Chinese laws, school regulations governing overseas students and have excellent academic performance can apply for Chongqing Municipal Mayor Scholarship (second category), CNU President Scholarship and Confucius Institute Scholarship.
Applicant Qualifications
Admission Requirements:
1. Age: 18-50. Applicants under 18 years old must be accompanied by their parents or guardians.
2. Health Examination: completed Physical Examination Form for Foreigners together with the original copy (lab copy of AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, type B Hepatitis and X-ray) of the health examination from hospitals.
3.Extra documents for students for Degree Programs:
(1) Academic Requirements: A certified high school diploma for bachelor's degree applicants or
bachelor degree for Master's degree applicants is required.
(2)Chinese proficiency (HSK): a minimum of Grade 6 Certificate for liberal arts or Grade 3 for
science and engineer applicants.
Tuition Fees
1. Tuition (Chinese currency):
(1) Short-term Training:
RMB￥1600 for two weeks,
RMB￥ 400 per each extra week of training.
(2) Long-term Training:
RMB￥ 6400 per semester,
RMB￥12,000 per academic year. (Major training programs are paid according to credits by the criteria of liberal arts, science,
arts and physical education.)
(3) Undergradate Programs:
RMB￥ 470 per Unit of Credit(hereafter as UOC) for liberal arts programs ( Minimum required UOC per academic year is 23). RMB￥ 540 per UOC for science programs ( Minimum required UOC per academic year is 25).
RMB￥ 640 per UOC for arts and physical education programs ( Minimum required UOC per academic year is 26).
(4)Postgraduate Programs:
RMB￥ 17,600 per academic year for liberal arts programs.
RMB￥ 20,800 per academic year for science programs.
RMB￥ 31,200 per academic year for arts and physical education programs.
2. Accommodation Fee (Chinese currency):
(1) Overseas students’ apartments on the main campus (with a bedroom, a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen; equipped with TV set, air-conditioner, telephone, refrigerator, washing machine and internet interface): RMB￥800 per month per person to live in one apartment or 400 RMB per person per month for two persons to share the apartment. (Fees for natural gas, electricity and water is not included).
(2) Chinese students’ apartments on the new campus (with a bedroom and a bathroom, internet interface, 4 students share one apartment): RMB￥1,200 per academic year per person.
(3) Chinese students’ apartments on the old campus (with a bedroom and a shared bathroom on each floor, internet interface, 4 students share one apartment): RMB￥1,000 per academic year per person. Note: Those who intend to live in on-campus apartments should reserve 40 days in advance. Overseas students are usually allowed to live in off-campus apartments.
3. Fee for Meals
Students can have meals in the Dinning Halls for Chinese students. The students can also cook for themselves. On average, it costs about RMB￥15-30 per person per day.
4. Text Books and Miscellaneous Fee
Fee for text books depends on the class schedule ( scholarship recipients are exempted from this fee). Students are responsible for insurance fee and other miscellaneous expenses.
5. Application Fee: RMB￥320, which should be sent to CNU International Students Office together with application form and other required documents for admission.
6. The tuition fee and enrollment fee are non-refundable. Fees are subject to change.
