The past 90 years have witnessed the establishment, development, and remarkable achievements of Hohai University. We are very proud of being the first institution of higher education in China focusing on a wide array of engineering subjects, water resources in particular. After over 90 years of development, Hohai University is now a state-level comprehensive university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of China, with the discipline of water resources as its distinctive feature and emphasis laid on the coordinated development of many disciplines, including engineering, science, management, economics, law, and liberal arts. Our university has gone through over 90 years of ups and downs. However, our faculty, students, and staff never stop self-improving. The rigorous and practical pioneers of Hohai University, such as LI Yizhi and MAO Yisheng, who were the forefathers in the education of engineering subjects in China, set a good example for their followers. Generations of Hohai people, encouraged by the glorious accomplishments of the distinguished alumnus ZHANG Wentian, persist in exploring the truth and making progress by overcoming numerous difficulties. The outstanding scholars at Hohai, such as YAN Kai, a member on both the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and XU Zhilun, a member on the Chinese Academy of Engineering, endeavored to make innovations and seek truth, whose noble virtues and achievements motivate our faculty and students to strive forward. More than 70,000 graduates from Hohai University, working hard all over the country, have become the backbone of the nation in the fields of water resources, energy resources, and transportation, making significant contributions to the development and growth of China. Collectively we will achieve a higher goal to build Hohai University into a multi-disciplined, high-level research university of significant international prestige, with world-class disciplines in water resources and strength in other disciplines.
