Brief Introduction to CUFE
Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE)
Located in downtown Beijing,the capital of China, and established in 1949, Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE),under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, is one of the leading comprehensive universities covering extensive disciplines in law, arts, sciences and engineering, and it is also distinguished in economics and management. It is one of the 100 universities to which the Chinese government has attached top priority for the 21st Century.
History of CUFE
In 1949, shortly after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the first university of finance and economics was created by the China central government. During more than five decades' development, it has been one of the leaders in business and financial studies. The name of the school when it was first established was the Central Institute of Taxation. It later went through several development stages. In 1996, the Institute was officially renamed the Central University of Finance and Economics in honor of the Ministry of Education.
On the occasion of the university's 50th anniversary, former President Jiang Zeming dedicated the following massage: "Strive continuously to make great progress to provide large numbers of well-qualified management personnel to aid China's modernization."
Mission
Globally recognized for its academic excellence, CUFE today is a vibrant community of scholarship and learning that has inherited the traditions of service to the entire nation and striving for excellence.
CUFE has developed into a key resource for first-class personnel in all areas of economics and management, as well as offering comprehensive education in law, liberal arts and the sciences.
The new campus, located in Shahe, Changping District, is currently under construction and will have a final area of 80.4 hectares.
CUFE strives for continuous improvement and attaches great importance to:
- selecting outstanding teachers;
- recognizing and encouraging the highest standards of scholarship and research among both faculty and
? students; and
- supporting students who face economic hardship in the quest to fulfill their potential through academic
? study.
Schools and Research Institutes
CUFE consists of over 30 schools, departments and research centers. The University awards bachelor's degrees in 39 academic disciplines, master's degrees in 42 disciplines, and 17 doctoral degrees in applied economics. In addition, four special programs are offered: MBA, MPAcc, MPA, and J.M. Key majors are in Applied Economics. There are also three post-research programs including applied economics, theoretical economics, business administration.
Students
Currently there are more than 15,000 students registered at CUFE, including 8,000 full-time students. Among these students, 5494 are undergraduates, 2275 are graduates and PhD candidates, and about 300 are international students. The others are adult students from the schools of Continuing Education and Online Education.
CUFE has trained more than 60,000 experts in economics and management who have made , and continue to make, significant contributions to the development of China'economy. Many CUFE alumni hold key positions in government, including the General Auditor, and in education, business and industry throughout the world.
Faculty
The university currently is home to more than 1067 full-time faculty and staff, including 110 professors and 237 associate professors as well as 50 foreign teachers. 78% of the faculty members have pursued master's and doctoral degrees.

Our goal for the future is to achieve responsible, managed growth through continuous improvement of our services, thereby developing a unique and multi-disciplinary research institution of international standing.
Majors and Programs
Short-Term Training Programs
1. Short-Term Business and Cultural Study Program
For the program varying from 4 to 8 weeks, the courses include Chinese politics, economy, culture and sociology. The program will not open until up to 8 applicants. At the end of the program, the students will be granted a certificate of completion from CUFE. At leisure time, CUFE will organize cultural tours to company or historical sites in Beijing and outside of Beijing. Tuition and expenses for the program depend on the specific curriculum and traveling lines.
2. Short-term Chinese Training Program
Short-term Chinese Training Program varying from 4 to 8 weeks is tailored for International Students with different purposes. The courses focus on developing speaking and listening skills. The Chinese language classes are held in the morning for a total of 15 hours per week. Lectures and cultural tours are arranged in the afternoon and weekend. For group of 10 or above, a class may start at any time. The tuition is flexible according to specific curriculum and needs.
Certificate: students will be granted a certificate of completion after the program.
Chinese Language Training Programs
1. Programs offered:
﹡ Elementary Chinese
This program is divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced levels with each level further divided into 3 levels to allow students at similar Chinese levels to be grouped together. Each class consists of 8---15 students. The curriculum focuses on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, modern grammar and essay writing. The program normally takes 2---3 semesters to complete and at the end of the program, beginners reach a higher Chinese proficiency level.
﹡ Business Chinese
The School of International Cultural Exchange takes the lead in China to launch Business Chinese, which is elaborately designed for students who want to acquire an adequately comprehensive knowledge of China’s economy as well as Chinese language. The program is divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced levels with each level further divided into 2—4 classes of 8---15 students each at a similar Chinese level. Students should already have a firm grasp of basic Chinese before starting the Business Chinese program. The curriculum with case studies aims at improving students’ spoken and listening proficiency in Business Chinese, and teaching business writing, and newspaper reading. The program normally takes 2—3 semesters to complete and at the end of the program students would be able to attain higher Chinese proficiency level in business environment.
Certificate: students who have completed all the courses and passed all the courses examinations will be granted a certificate of completion.
2. Tuition
Tuition for Elementary Chinese is RMB 17600 and for Business Chinese is RMB 20000 every academic year.
II. Chinese Business Study Programs (English or Chinese)
The program aims to allow students of a high Chinese proficiency to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of modern China’s economic environment such as China’s economy, business and trade, finance, law, sociology, etc. in a short period of time. The program can be offered in Chinese and English.
Core courses: Advanced Finance Theory & Practice, China’s Foreign Theory & Practice, Chinese Foreign Trade Law, Chinese Foreign Trade Practice & International Conventions, Topics in Chinese Economy and Finance, Chinese Taxation Law, Advanced Business Chinese and Business Newspaper Reading.
Certificate: students who have completed all the courses and passed all the courses examinations will be granted a certificate of completion.
Tuition: Tuition for the program offered in Chinese is US$ 200 per week and for the program offered in English is US$ 250 per week.

※ Program description: students in this program will study at CUFE for four years. After successfully completing the studies, graduates will be granted a Bachelor’s degree from CUFE.

※ Program description: students in this program will study at CUFE for two years. After successfully completing the studies, graduates will be granted a Master degree from CUFE.

Scholarship
Scholarships
CUFE provides all sorts of financial aids and scholarships for international students of excellence so as to encourage them to study hard and observe Chinese laws. To be qualified, international students should enroll in a degree program and meet CUFE’s criteria. RMB 10,000 is awarded to qualified doctoral students while RMB 8000 is awarded to master students.
The scholarships are at three levels.
- The undergraduate student is awarded RMB 4000 for the first prize, 3000 for the second prize, RMB 2000 for the third prize.
- The master student is awarded RMB 6000 for the first prize, RMB 4000 for the second prize, RMB 3000 for the third prize.
- The doctoral student is awarded RMB 8000 for the scholarship.
- The master student qualified for a waiver of the entrance exam is awarded RMB 5000, the doctoral student qualified for a waiver of the entrance exam is awarded RMB 6000.
