Shaolin Wushu Festival sparkles with 60,000 performers

Over
60,000 students from Wushu schools perform Shaolin Kung Fu on the way to the
Shaolin Temple scenic area.
The Eighth
Zhengzhou International Shaolin Wushu Festival will open on Oct. 22 and a
welcoming ceremony will be held in Dengfeng on the afternoon of the next day. On
the afternoon of Oct. 21, the welcoming ceremony held a rehearsal for the first
time with over 60,000 students from Wushu schools performing Shaolin Kung Fu on
the way to the Shaolin Temple scenic area.
At the rehearsal, 800 students
from the Tagou Wushu School formed the Chinese character, "Tian Di Zhi Zhong"
and then "Gong Fu Zhi Du" by standing on ladders as they were accompanied by
musical beats. The 720 students in the plaza held colored flags and performed
Wushu skills. The Chinese characters composed of their bodies became a major
highlight at the ceremony.
At the Shaolin Temple scenic area, more than
8,000 students from the Tagou Wushu School who were dressed in traditional
costumes, Buddhist robes and combat clothes performed traditional and unique
Shaolin Wushu skills, such as quincuncial piles, the iron palm, changing one's
bones and leaping onto roofs as well as vaulting over walls. They demonstrated
the broad and profound Shaolin Wushu skills to push the entire rehearsal to the
climax.
In front of the Shaolin Temple's entrance, Shi Yongxin, abbot of
the Shaolin Temple will lead monks of the temple to the entrance and welcome
guests participating in the festival. The guests will follow the abbot to visit
the temple after the solemn welcoming ceremony.
According to sources, the
organizing committee plans to take the Shaolin Temple, Zhongyue Temple, and the
Songyang Academy as the three focuses of the welcoming ceremony. They will use
the tourist highway as the main route of the ceremony to fully display the
extensive and profound Shaolin Wushu Style as well as the humanity landscapes
and mental outlook in the cradle of Shaolin Wushu.
The organizing
committee also arranged more than 60,000 students from Wushu schools to perform
Shaolin Kung Fu along the nearly 20-kilometer long road from Yingxian Park of
Dengfeng to the Shaolin Temple scenic spot. More than 13,000 students from the
Tagou Wushu School out of the total 60,000 students were also arranged to
perform a large-scale artistic performance at the Yingxiange Square and the
Shaolin Temple scenic spot respectively. 800
