1.China being the biggest destination country for study abroad
In 2016, the number of foreign students in China reaches 440,000; increased 35% compared to 2012. The number of degree students is 210,000 which takes up 47.4% of the total foreign students number and increases 7% compared to 2012; master and Phd students achieve 64,000 people, taking up 14.4% of total numbers and increases 3.4% compared to 2012. In addition, in 2016, there are in total about 130,000 foreign students studying in all kinds of institutions and primary schools.
2.Increase in the number of foreign students from “ one belt and one road countries”
Foreign students of more than 250 countries and regions are from, in order, South Korea, United State, Thailand, Pakistan, India, Russia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Japan and Vietnam. In recent years, there is a significant growth in the number of foreign students from 2. “ one belt and one road ”countries. In 2016, there are in total 207,746 students from 64 countries along the borders with a 13.6% increase over the same period last year.
3.more choices in disciplines
In 2016, the number of foreign students for language learners takes up 38.2% of total numbers, decreased 15.3% compared with 53.5% in 2012. More students are choosing to study education, science , engineering and agriculture. Among degree students, medicine, engineering, business and management are the most chosen majors.
4.Effectiveness of Chinese Government Scholarship
In 2016, there are 49,022 foreign students who are awarded the CSC to study in China, covering 11% of total students, increasing 70% compared with 2012. The attraction of the Chinese Government Scholarship helps with the introduction of high-leveled talents into China and improve the high quality development of studying in china affairs.
Apart from CSC, the universities also provide all kinds of scholarship to support the foreign education. For now, we still have march intake partial scholarship for degree students; the available disciplines are listed as follows: civil engineering, BBA,Computer science and engineering, Electrical and electronic engineering. For September intake, all majors are open for students.
